![]() Wild Ivy ... an evergreen climbing plant with roots firm in the ground and a body that ascends like a spiral (helix) towards heaven trailing along the trees.
Ivy grows wild; it covers the trunks of trees, leaning patiently and slowly towards the light. Apart from the helixes; which were always the symbol of the infinite cycle of life and death, the course of the soul towards completion and the rhythmical rebirth of nature, the ivy has another feature. The shape of the ivy leaves is not the same throughout the duration of its growth. Near the ground, and as long as the plant remains in the shade, the leaves have five corners and it has a dark green colour. As it climbs towards the light the leaves change shape; first they become triangular and then gradually they totally lose their geometrical shape and become almost spades, just before its fruits appear.
"Just as in the beginning as in the end" or to better explain, as the plant does not die once it bears its fruit, it shows us its capacity to maintain its childish ecstasy along with its wisdom of mature age.
