Why people breed dogs ...
There are many reasons why people breed dogs - the most noble of course being for the betterment and advancement of the breed. At Vanderbilt we don't breed dogs so we can buy new jewelery or take a carribean vacation - ALL incoming funds go right back into the breeding program, and even then a large percentage of our salaries are sacrificed in this passionate pursuit of canine excellence. That is not to imply we are martyrs - we LOVE what we do, and wake up excited every morning knowing we have found our "calling". Alas breeding dogs the "right" way generally puts people in the poor house so the real jobs are necessary. Many people keep costs low by cutting corners on health screening, quality-assurance events (dog shows, etc), and most commonly - aquisition of the best bloodlines. One purebred puppy can differ vastly from another in background, raising/socialization and overall quality, yet both be of the same breed and come 'with papers'. It is up to the prospective purchaser of a purebred puppy to sift and sort through breeders until they find the one right for them and that they feel comfortable buying a dog from. We are just as picky about our buyers.

Proudly "showin off"!
